Etch Primer/Bonding Coat

A pre-treatment for aluminium, copper, brass, cadmium, zinc, galvanising, nickel and carbon steel. An adhesion coat to abraded stainless steel.

Surface preparation

Steel

  • Degrease where necessary to remove weld flux and general contamination prior to blasting
  • All sharp edges should be ground and weld spatter removed
  • Blast clean to Sa 2½ maximum profile 75 microns

Non-Ferrous Metals

  • for galvanised surfaces: surface must be thoroughly degreased, rinsed with clean water and allowed to dry before coating; it is essential to remove all flux and zinc salts and high profile zinc spatter
  • for aluminium, copper, brass, cadmium and nickel surfaces: thoroughly degrease and remove all verdigris,salts and other contaminants; wash with clean water and allow to dry
  • for stainless steel: thoroughly abrade and degrease; all surfaces should be clean, dry and free from all grease, oil and general contamination

  • 1st coat: fast-set, low temperature curing, EPA-compliant high-build epoxy zinc phosphate primer/finish bonding coat applied to the stainless steel
  • 2nd coat: fast-set, low temperature curing, EPA-compliant high-build epoxy zinc phosphate
